For 500 years, Orlando has dragged himself through the world in a relentless search for Angelica.
Filled with shame at the love madness that dominates him, he who used to the absolute champion of Reason, he spends his days cursing at his dreams and hope.
Suddenly he finds himself amidst strange festive creatures, whose songs, dances and artifices puzzle him as to what Reason and Madness are. More and more disoriented, Orlando has no idea he is in the presence of Madness itself and its helpers, the chimeras, who have prepared a special evening for him.
Margherita Pupulin’s text is a free and contemporary reinterpretation of Erasmus of Rotterdam’s In Praise of Folly, an open questioning of the value of the irrational, of dreams and mystery that questions the all-contemporary cult of control and rationalisation.
The Palace of Atlas, the realm of illusions and mirages where the great magician kept his beloved heroes locked up to prevent them from being killed on their way out, becomes here a metaphor for life, which needs dreams and crazy vision in order not to dissipate.
By rehabilitating Orlando as a witness to a happy madness, the text revalorises utopias and inconsistencies, in search of a different meaning for human life, more integrated, less excluding: hybrid, like chimeras.
